Way to fix a damaged .txt text file?

Anyone know if there is a good way to fix a damaged or corrupt .txt text file? I had the .txt file opened when Windows 7 blue screen on me from another program. And after reboot, my .txt file opens as a blank file even though the file size shows it's 1 KB. Is there a fix?

Problem Running Games On Windows Xp 64 bit

My PC isn't the best but it gets along nicely . I am able to run the latest games in HD but even if i run them on the lowest graphics my Screen freezes and goes black . I am still able to hear the music in the background but not even ALT F4 or windows D or any other command will close or minimize the game . So i am forced to restart .This mostly hap pends when i run games like Cod4 , Assassins Creed .. and strangely World Of Warcraft ( Dunegons Mostly ) I am not a big gamer but this is very annoying when your attempting to play Cod4 online .

Sometimes, when I browse files on especially the folder of my Downloaded Movies, Windows Explorer would suddenly not work. It will not respond so it will restart automatically. I can't anymore browse properly my Downloaded Movies on my Seagate External Hard Drive. I've used Flash_V21.6 to remove viruses but it still happens. I've scanned it with Avira Antivir Premium but it still happens. It doesn't happen on my Local Disk. Only on my External Drive and only on the Movies folder. (It doesn't happen in my Music folder even though that Music folder has more files than the movies')

I just got myself the Beta version of BF BC2 with a working beta key.

All went smooth and fine untill I pressed the join game button. It went into the loading screen, than loaded (I could hear the sounds from the server, people playing and stuff) than it just got stuck in the loading screen and after a while it crashed.

So, as part of my daily use tool collection, I have programs that will read/write the CMOS to flush pesky BIOS passwords, and programs that will wipe clean any password on Windows (from 98-Vista). Both require either CD or floppy that can be booted from.

A couple weeks back I attempted to crack a HDD password for a client. Since I couldn't find any good resources online (for a SATA hard drive), I just traded him out; my 80 gig Sata for his locked 160 gig sata. So far I have failed miserably trying to make it usable again. I'm not interested in the data on it, so any solution that may even format the drive would work...I'm just not sure how to tackle the problem. I have an external usb sata adapter which loads it, but naturally doesn't allow access (as the password is stored in the firmware). Initially it came from some Dell Inspiron laptop (3.5" HDD).

I have a couple questions about how to handle this:
1) Are there any good programs to crack HD password via USB?
2) ...Or does it need to be connected internally to a laptop that lets you input the password?

CFQ trojan - Solution

Unzipped a file.. loaded the file in.. a clean .exe..
A few hours later avast is telling me the the unzipped install file is affected with a Win32:small-CFQ trojan..

Note interesting enough.. not the actual program install.. that is clean..
Just the actual install file.. from the zip..
Anyway.. deleted the file..
next day.. more exe files started showing up as infected.. (seems to be a trait of the Win32:small-CFQ trojan)..

problem of course.. is that Avast is deleting tons of files now.. and of as today.. it got a little out of control... I had to do a boot time scan.. and it deleted helps of files that have become infected..

Anyway.. the other night I did run Malawarebytes.. over night and it picked up a few things.. but looks like it didnt kill it.. (I didnt run it in windows safe mode.. might do that tonight)..

I have downloaded the new avast 5 just incase it was avast 4.8 playing up.. but that was this morning. and this afternoon it really had a spaze.. with the boot time scan..

also note.. I just tried to run a scan with Avast in "safe" mode.. but seems the new version doesn't like Xp safe mode and wont run.. humm.. seems a lite worrisome for future problems..

I cant seem to get too much info out of Google on killing this little sucker.. as did a hunt and got the usual drivel

Computer blue screens, then restarts

Basically, after a while on the computer, my computer will suddenly freeze up, blue screen, then restart. I've tried using advanced system optimizer to clean out all the crap, virus scanners, malware scanners etc etc. After, they always seem to work for a while, but before I know it, it's restarted and theirs nothing I can do.

I can't even note down what blue screen it is. When I send an error report, Microsoft website says it's a driver problem, so I don't know if that helps atall.

Please help with any solutions, they will all be appreciated. I can't system restore either because I don't know how long it's been present, quite a while really.

I got this issue after an unfortunate power cut, the system started up but then restarted again unexpectedly, after that i got this 'black screen of death'. Kaspersky found a possible keylogger on Win7 partition.

Anyway I want to completely wipe out my HDD and install windows 7 only. Think I'm gonna use Hirens Boot CD for it.

I have trouble connecting to netgear DG834GSP V3, the trouble is that I cannot connect to the rounter. I have plugged LAN Port to the pc and one from internet port wire have already plugged in the master socket. It don't have the CD driver so it should usually works but I don't know how my twat brother done it before and it worked. I opened the internet explorer and I have input the router ip address in the address bar which it is http://192.168.0.1 and http://192.168.1.1 and pressed Enter. A small box appears that said the network connection is offline. Something got to do with the internet connection issue (Internet options). I don't know how to add one so that would connect to the rounter??

The rounter have connected to the ISP and its works fine but i have trouble connecting to the rounter from his pc. I have also tried ipconfig/all and there are no rounter information.

I'm currently working with Mic. Office Publisher 2003 and making a webpage for the company. But working with one problem..

It doesn't always fit on every screen.
It currently only exactly fits on 1024x768 screens.
How do I get it that way that it automaticly nicely fits to both 4:3 and 16:9 screens.. Prefereably even every resolution (1024x768, 1224x768 .. )

Or what is also fine: 1024x768 standard, but when looking with e.g. 1400x900 (16:9) the page is centered. That thing I don't have yet.

Boot Problem - Laptop will boot and logoff

My Laptop was Hijack by several virus-worms, I was not able to use most of the shortcuts in the Control Panel and most of the services would not work i.e. windows updated, add and remove programs, about 90% of the controls were hijack.

csrsc.exe – was clean using:
Autorun-virus-removal tool
Registry Easy
RegGenie

At this point some of the services and control panel works, still on the system:
“idvbwt.exe, cuvgmt.exe, fsgwyq.exe and worse of all, “cftu.exe”, still running on the Laptop”

Most Commercial AV were unable to detect and clean the above, only ClamWin found all 4 virus-worms and some others –“ this is where the boot problem “May” have started”, ClamWin was set to remove – my mistake – not to quarantine the virus – at this point it may have remove some entries of the registry or files, its only my suspicion, at the same time I was following all the advice possible in how to remove the virus, base on the previous experience with the removal of the csrsc.exe, which it keep coming back, until entries in the registry were delete.

From ClamWin log:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\autorun.in: Worm.Autorun-1792 FOUND C:\WINDOWS\system32\autorun.i: Worm.Autorun-1792 FOUND C:\WINDOWS\system32\cftu.exe: Trojan.Autoit-72 FOUND
C:\Program Files\ftprush_ansi\ftprush.exe: Trojan.PcClient-2361 FOUND

Keeping that in mind, I also delete one entry in the register with may have contributed to the problem, base on the advice of the following site: h***://www.pcthreat.com/parasitebyid-7831en.html, their advice was to check and delete the following entries in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN\ Yahoo Messengger

I only found and delete:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWSNT\CURRENTVERSION\WINLOGON\USERINIT\ userinit

At this point I am not sure if it was the same as above or something that may have look a like… big mistake on my part, I think…

By the way, during the above process I have set to “Off” the system restore, as most advice to do, during the scan and removal of the virus-worms.

Once I restart the system I found the next problem:

The Laptop, an IBM T23, ThinkPad, Pentium III, Fat32 would start normally
The welcome screen came on
I log as: Administrator, put my password…
Loading your personal setting screen…
The windows desktop theme came on, nothing else…
Then the Logging off blue screen came on
And then back to the welcome blue screen where I have started

I try to start on a safe mode – same situation as above
I try the different menus on the safe mode, command prompts, last known section – nothing will work.

I figure the boot record may get screwed during the cleaning process– I figure I would repair the boot records using the Win XP CD with the R, Repair option:

Check first the bootcfg – did not work
Fixboot - did not work

Fixmbr, which is not recommended

Writing a new master boot record on physical drive
\device\harddisk0\partition0

The new master boot record has been successfully written

It did not work either, and then I check again
Bootcfg
1 “Microsoft Windows XP Professional”
Load Option: /fast detect /NoExecute =Opt In
Os Location: C:\windows

Then I remember what happen when I try to use the fixmbr:
“This compute appear to a non-standard or invalid master boot record

Also checking with the command “map”

\devese\harddisk0\partition1

No wonder, why the fixmbr did not work:
Writing a new master boot record on physical drive
\device\harddisk0\partition0
Which is different than the computer is using to start.

This is where I am now

I know or think, that some entries got screw that relay directly to the boot record: : /fast detect /NoExecute =Opt In

I have no idea how to fix the problem, I can not access the regedit, since the boot process would not I allow me in to check the last entry that I delete, it may be or it may look like:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWSNT\CURRENTVERSION\WINLOGON\USERINIT\ userinit

But I can not be sure

If you're going to REPLACE the hard disk - then the current 40gb hard disk means it will be disconnected - so of course, the computer will think it just doesn't exist. In that case you will need to install Windows on the new hard disk.

However, instead of replacing it, you may connect the second hard disk leaving your current hard disk connected. You will be able to access both hard disks, and that way everything on you 40gb hard disk will still be accessible - including your installation of Windows XP.

I've had this problem for a while now and I'm really wondering how to fix this, because i want to play a lot games that I'm unable to play because they shut down my computer.

First of all, i'm on Windows 7 64bit final version. And all the games that I have problems with I have never tested on Vista.

My spec:

Mobo: ASUS P5Q
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Hard Drive: 2 TB Total
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 768 MB
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

What happens:

Race On:
Game start. I get the intros and then when I get on the menu screen it crashes. Sometimes it doesn't crash directly but after clicking on one of the buttons. Result: Shuts down computer and let it restart giving me the "windows didn't shut down properly" black screen after bios boot. I was able to get in game once and race for ± 30 min before returning to menu where it made it happen again

Dungeons And Dragons: Online:
Mostly I don't get any problems with it but sometimes it shuts down my computer just after login in. Same result as first one.

Tropico 3:
Crashes during intros or if I quickly close them down it crashes on the menu loading screen. Giving me the same shut down result.

Risen:
Once in menu it crashes. First time I was able to do the settings then it crashes after clicking "new game" now it just crashes after the intros, so when I get the menu. Same shutdown...

So the following this I've tried and then restarted the game. I've done this with all the games that gave me this problem.

Compatible issue, set it on VISTA or XP
Updated my Bios drivers
Updated my GPU driver (1st driver gave me the error, got the latest of the internet then a beta and then few days later another new release all giving me the same result.)
Updated Drivers of my chipset / mobo

I've done these all in steps and tested in step all without giving any result. I find it very strange that I only get this very anoying shutdown because I got a bunch of other games just working perfectly fine without having to do any of these things!

I bought an HP dv5 laptop with Norton Internet Security 2009 with 60 days complimentary live update. Now I only have 4 days left. I'm not sure of what I should do after the trial expires.

My options are:
1. Uninstall and use Microsoft Internet Essentials
2. Uninstall and install Norton Internet Security 2008

I find out the solution for this particular problem in Windows 7. When you go to Sharing options you should be able to choose sharing options for users or groups or objects. There should be degault users and groups like: Administrator, user, you etc. and for each and every one of it we are able to set level of access privileges Full, Read or Write. But we need one more group/user that we are to set with Full accessibility. It's "Everyone" user. You must add it by yourself in the list and give it Full privileges. Windows 7 should re-attribute all the files on C: and it will be able to access from another PC with XP or Vista installed.

have build 7100 on my macbook through bootcamp and everything installed smoothly...only thing i have ran into is that for some strange reason my pioneer dvr-112d wont come up on the available disc drives list under my computer (actually for some reason it doesnt register at all but does on my mac side of the computer so i know its not an issue with the drive)...firefox works fine and so does bitdefender total security...if you do run into any problems with bitdefender then just uninstall it and reinstall...had to do that with build 7068 but afterwards everything was fine...no other issues from me i like windows 7 much more than vista...pick it over vista even tho my optical drive doesnt recognize

Playing MKV with GOM player

I am using GOM player now for over a year and I never had any problems with it. Now, since a few weeks it can't play the new encoded .mkv files. The strange thing is that it still plays MKV's I downloaded a while ago.

When I try to play such a 'new encoded MKV file' I get the message: Can't use overlay mixer.

I have the same problem on my other computers.

I can still watch the MKV files with VLC, Windows Media Player Classic ... but not with GOM.

I want to do a complete reformat of my computer, I got a 500GB SATA HD recently to back everything up - I thought it would be simple just open up and pop it in but my computer already has two 250GBs taking up the bays and there are no extra power connectors so I cant hook up the 500GB alongside the other 2 and backup from there.

I was thinking maybe I could plug out the 2 250s, pop in the 500 and load up windows onto it and then reconnect one of the other hds and browse from there or would have cause some kind of corruption since the 2 250s only make up one drive in windows?

I own a Toshiba Satellite A135 laptop, it came with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.

Then i changed to XP, and now i changed to Windows 7...

Now, the problem is:

Whenever i happen to put to sleep or hibernate the laptop, when i "wake it up" it simply can't connect to wireless internet or internet by cable (i can't remember the word for this xD)... so i have to restart the laptop to get the internet working again, im getting pretty tired of this.. idk if it is the only problem (bcuz i restart immediately) but i need to fix it...
