Explorer.exe closes automatically External Hard Drive Problem?

Sometimes, when I browse files on especially the folder of my Downloaded Movies, Windows Explorer would suddenly not work. It will not respond so it will restart automatically. I can't anymore browse properly my Downloaded Movies on my Seagate External Hard Drive. I've used Flash_V21.6 to remove viruses but it still happens. I've scanned it with Avira Antivir Premium but it still happens. It doesn't happen on my Local Disk. Only on my External Drive and only on the Movies folder. (It doesn't happen in my Music folder even though that Music folder has more files than the movies')

Unlock Hard Drive

So, as part of my daily use tool collection, I have programs that will read/write the CMOS to flush pesky BIOS passwords, and programs that will wipe clean any password on Windows (from 98-Vista). Both require either CD or floppy that can be booted from.<br /><br />A couple weeks back I attempted to crack a HDD password for a client. Since I couldn't find any good resources online (for a SATA hard drive), I just traded him out; my 80 gig Sata for his locked 160 gig sata. So far I have failed miserably trying to make it usable again. I'm not interested in the data on it, so any solution that may even format the drive would work...I'm just not sure how to tackle the problem. I have an external usb sata adapter which loads it, but naturally doesn't allow access (as the password is stored in the firmware). Initially it came from some Dell Inspiron laptop (3.5" HDD).<br /><br />I have a couple questions about how to handle this:<br />1) Are there any good programs to crack HD password via USB?<br />2) ...Or does it need to be connected internally to a laptop that lets you input the password?

Hard Drive Question

I want to do a complete reformat of my computer, I got a 500GB SATA HD recently to back everything up - I thought it would be simple just open up and pop it in but my computer already has two 250GBs taking up the bays and there are no extra power connectors so I cant hook up the 500GB alongside the other 2 and backup from there.<br /><br />I was thinking maybe I could plug out the 2 250s, pop in the 500 and load up windows onto it and then reconnect one of the other hds and browse from there or would have cause some kind of corruption since the 2 250s only make up one drive in windows?

Hard Disk Drive Not Detecting

Yesterday i bought one 500gb segate harddisk [ SATA ], connected to my motherboard but it was not detected.<br /><br />I tried changing BIOS settings and there is no listing of my new harddrive.<br /><br />I took it to my friends house and checked it's working properly in his house. and again i tried installing in my home<br />got the same result [ not found ].<br /><br />After installing the hard disk the system took long time to boot. Also checked another 160 gb Sata harddisk of my friend it's working fine.<br /><br />Also checked the hard disk by connecting various sata cable and slots [ 2 slots to connect sata in my motherboard ].<br /><br />The Hard disk is getting power, i can feel when i took it in my hand.

CHKDSK problem

I got a really annoying problem!! My 120GB HDD has got 3 partitions:<br />C: (10GBs - FAT32)<br />D: (30GBS - FAT32)<br />E: (80GBS - NTFS)<br /><br />Now the problem is whenever Windows boots up, the CHKDSK runs for E:<br /><br />I allowed it to complete the 1st time I saw it; but when I restarted the CHKDSK again appeared and that too only for E:!!! This now occurs at every restart!<br /><br />I tried reinstalling XP by formatting C:... still he problem continues!!<br /><br />Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this annoying problme???

160 gb Hard Drive Problem

I bought a 160gb hard drive recently, and when I attempt to install it into my computer, it just doesnt work.<br /><br />The model is "Seagate Barracuda 160gb ATA100 7200RPM, 8MB 8.5MS Hard Drive OEM"<br /><br />I have made sure the jumpers are switched into their place.<br /><br />Alright... Now for the stupid part of the whole thing.<br /><br />I put it in where I had a second 40gb hard drive (I had a 40gb w/ windows, and a 40gb with random stuff) I removed the second drive, and the IDE cable was black, the Windows XP one had a white cable. Now I just popped in the 160 gig hdd. Booted up, and it said that there was no boot sector, so I took it out, and tried booting, it worked fine.<br /><br />So I put the Hard drive in the WHITE spot instead of the black spot. It then booted, and once windows started, it said "HDD Detected" etc etc. So when I went to Explorer, it wasn't there... I checked hardware manager, and it says some random numbers (usually it says the brand etc) and when I properties it, i get "GenDrive" in vendor etc. And it doesn't report it as anything (no serial num etc)<br /><br />So at the moment I have it completely unplugged, but its in the computer. I have a theory that its my cables that are only ATA66 or w/e it is.<br /><br />Specs<br /><br />Pentium 4 2.8GHz<br />Sapphire x1600 Pro<br />1gb Kingston RAM (2x512)<br />Soundblaster Audigy<br />Two DVD Drives, one DVD and the other DVD writer<br />One IDE Hard drive, 40gb (not sure if its ATA66 or ATA100)<br />ECS P4S5A<br /><br />Googling my Mobo shows it does support ATA100, so it SHOULD work. Defragmentation or not?

I have a MAXTOR 80GB (7200 8MB) Harddisc which is quite old (about 3.5 years).<br />I'm getting to the point that I'm not sure defragmentation would help or not. From what I've heard (after extensive reading) defragmenting could bring more damage to an old hardware. I download about 20 gbs a month. I delete a lot using Ccleaner and use Windows Disk Defragmenter.<br />Last time I defragmented the harddrive was about 3 months ago and I think I should do it again quite soon.<br />What do you think?<br />1. Is defragmenting important?<br />2. Should I defragment?<br />3. Isn't it "dangerous"?<br />4. Is there a software that minimizes the dangers of defragmentaion?

I have ASUS P5LD2 VM SE Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz. To sum it up its pretty good and advanced pc that i got.<br /><br />HOWEVER, i have 250 GB SAMSUNG SATA-II<br /><br />SATA - II are said to deliver speeds of upto 300MBPS if not exactly 300MBPS.<br /><br />BUT IN MY PC Transfer from one partition to another doesnt even occur at 100 MBPS. I have abt 60 GB of data that i want to transfer from one partition to another and this simply TAKES AGES. One of my other frnd has same SATA-II and he says he gets speed of more than 250 MBPS (He transfered 10 GB in 40 Seconds).<br /><br />PLS HELP ME!!
