I got a laptop which is 1.5GHZ 256MB DDR2 Ram 40gig
Well i am on Windows xp and when i start loading a couple of programs or close a game, the Computer DIES, meaing i gotta wait for like 5 mins for everything to slowly come back to normal.
Is the ram i need to upgrade?
memory is a good place to start (cause the amount of mem you have is minimal), but you could also check the taskmanager when this happens to see what appez and/or resource that drains the puter
ReplyDelete1) Defrag drives
ReplyDelete2) Cleanup registry
3) Remove useless services that you do not need or use
4) Edit your startup entries
5) Whichever drive windows is on should have atleast a spare 7gigs (windows should be on it's own drive along with your programs such as office, everything else should be on seperate drives such as games for D:\ and movies for E:\ etc. that's if you want good maintenance + peak performance
6) Scan your computer for the usual malware
7) Remove old history and temp files
8) If your low on memory use applications that don't take up so much of it example: norton = hog, nod32 = friendly
9) Make sure you don't use any internet tweaking applications especially if your either on a LAN or have a router in use. I can't stress that enough for idiots on this forum, programs such as cfosspeed DO NOT WORK IF YOUR ON A LAN/ROUTER (it even says so on there website for godsake) and if your using the other kind of internet speed tweak which adjusts the registry and tcp settings don't bother at all as the default settings work better for alot of things such as lan games and ftp downloading.
- and yes get more ram 512ddr is considered standard nowadays.
