well my computer seems to be running extremely slow, and im thinking about reformatting, will that help much?

256 mb 6200 geforce gfx card
1 gig ram
windows xp home sp2

Not necesarilly format, just search for TuneUp Utilities and it should work way faster. System Mechanic is a pretty usefull app also.
