You will find about 50 tutoriials on backing up DVDs -- you will probably be most interested in the section
"How to backup DVD to AVI/DivX/XviD/H264/WMV/VC1".
I am reasonably certain that as you scan these tuts you will get the answer to your resolution question and
others such as frame rate - bitrate - etc.
let autogk do it for you, if you start to mess around with resolution setting you will only mess up the aspect-ratio of the movie and end up with a movie that either looks stretched or squashed. My advice is in, advance setting under "output resolution setting" set to Auto and in "output audio type" set to Original (AC3/DTS/MPA only). This will automatically select the correct resolution and digital sound if available. The size then of the actual resolution is then dependent on the final size of your rip. a 1cd or a 2cd rip. a 2cd rip will of course have a much better resolution than a 1cd rip. The standard for deciding if it should be a 1 or 2 cd rip ie 700mb or 1.4gb is the length of the movie. Anything over 1hour and 30mins should be a 2cd rip, under that a 1cd rip will suffice.
