    Avira has dedicated update servers for paying customers so it should be faster in theory. Haven't used a paid version of Avira recently so I can't directly comment from experience.

    are you sure you werent downloading other things as well ? a movie etc ?
    have you noticed it while NOT downloading any other file simultaneously ?

    other wise , I too have avira premium from like months, but no problem as of yet
