i have a video camera and I use it frequently to record stuff obviously lol, however, the videos sizes are huge. This makes sending these videos to people and stuff very difficult... it also takes up a large amount of space on my computer.

Does anyone know a program or just a way to make these videos smaller?

First thing everyone needs to know is what is the file format!

You say the "videos sizes are huge" -- I have to assume you do not mean the height and width but
    rather the number of Bytes.

Therefore, I assume the file format is DV -- is that correct or is it some other uncompressed format?

well erm first off im not too sure on the file format. When i goto properties it says

Type of File: Movie Clip - it might MPEG.

one of the videos is only 8 minutes long but 546mb in size.

Based on that file size for an 8 minute clip -- I am going to assume some type of uncompressed MPEG and
    and uncompressed audio like PCM/wave.

First thing to check is your camera's manual and get the exact specs of what it is recording.

If it is something like MPEG1 you can use VirtualDub to reduce the file size.

Need to know exactly what the video and audio codecs are. And they should be in the manual.

Also, can you give the make and model of the camera?

he make of the camera is Sony and the model is DCR-SR30

I can't find the manual at the moment but I will have a look around for it.
