I don't know why, but my touchpad on my HP laptop no longer works when I try to scroll with it! What can I do to fix the scroller on the touchpad? I can still move the pointer and click on screen with a tap, but the scroller is the onlything not working.
The drivers are up-to-date, and I'm running WinXP SP2
this happened to my laptop(Averatec 3700). when i first got it, it stopped working, then when i did a clean install of xp(to get rid of all the crappy programs it comes with) it worked again. then a week or so later it stopped working. then about a 2 weeks ago i was having problems with the hard drive so i did a clean install again and what do you know, it works. but i dont know how long it will continue to be functioning.
ReplyDeletes there a touchpad icon in your taskbar by the clock
ReplyDeleteit there is rt and/or left click it to see if there are any settings
did you check for a setting in mouse section of control panel
you could also try uninstalling device in dvice mgr then reboot and let windows re-install the driver
don't have an external mouse attached when you do this
1. There used to be one, but isn't showing up any longer.
ReplyDelete2. When I click to check the mouse settings in the control panel it immediatly gives me a message isaying "Unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device".
3. Ill do that later, only after I exhaust all my options.
I might call HP customer support, but over 90% of the people know less than I do. Last I called I got lucky with reaching someone smart.
I think you can always check your settings of touchpad as mentioned but also in the bios you can check several options for your touchpad ,maybe you can look to this .
ReplyDeletethis happens when HP special software for laptop touchpad is deactivated or uninstalled. with the clean install, it surely comes back. since i'm using toshiba i cannot be more specific, but i suggest you to browse you programs and recovery cd of HP which came with the laptop
ReplyDeleteuninstalled the driver and let the laptop restart. When it loaded up it automaticly installed the missing driver, and BAM... It worked again!!
