    Hardcoded subtiles become part of the actual movie file and cannot be removed. If someone knows differently I'd like to hear. It may be possible to try and mask them but I've never tried this and the results are sure to be less than perfect.

    Only way to remove them is to crop (cut) the bit with subs out, at least i think you mean they hard subbed the movie. This is the case when you don't have a separate file, only the movie file.
    I don't know what tool to use to crop it out, as i rather download a different version, than cutting a piece out of the movie.

    If it was an AVI then using VirtualDub with various filters could get rid of it but it certainly would not be perfect, once they are hard coded it can never be.
